Use of “AI” on this site

I put “AI” in quotation marks because it’s become an ambiguous catch-all term for many technologies, some beneficial (specific applications of machine learning), many destructive.

In regard to my humble little site here, I’m mostly referring to the use of Large Language Models (LLMs) and generative AI where you enter text into a prompt and the LLM spits out an image, code, or some other form of text.

This is my statement:

I don’t use AI in any form on my site.

In the early days of LLMs I dabbled a bit with both OpenAI’s ChatGPT and Adobe’s Firefly, mostly to make a few silly images, like a cat wearing a top hat. I’ve also used them to generate “idea” prompts, which were generally terrible.

Once I informed myself of the cost of LLMs and associated technology, the intellectual theft and the myriad other negative effects “AI” have, I stopped using it.

The experiments are still on the site, I’m not going to purge them or pretend I didn’t experiment. I did, I learned.

And that’s my statement.
