I tried and failed to draw a treasure chest freehand, so I cheated by using a reference image, then embellished it with, of course, gum gum people.

I tried four different sketches for this before essentially giving up and going with stick men. But they’re nice-looking stick men.

I don’t know, it just came to me.

I ended up with a vast chunk of white in the foreground. This is why they invented cropping.

I tried two other versions of this before (mostly) playing it straight.

My initial idea was someone too big, then a giant plant shooting through a house. I finally decided, for reasons unknown, to draw an octopus in an aquarium. After getting the idea, my next goal was to do the sketch as quickly as possible, leaving in the myriad imperfections instead of spending an extra hour fixing them. I don’t think the final result is any worse for the decision.

The volcano looks like it’s been painted, rather than covered with ash, but it’s an ash-like color, at least!

Or for pedants, patterns. This is very unoriginal and took a surprisingly long time to cobble together (I scrapped and redrew several of the patterns).
