I was searching for a random duck GIF (I mean, who doesn’t do this?) and this one delights me to no end.

Little duck, big duck
From the birding on October 28, 2023, a photo of two adult female ducks, one a green-winged teal and the other a mallard, standing on a pipe next to each other.
Canada D’eh 2023
I have no idea why I’ve never used this terrible title for Canada Day before, but I’ve fixed that now!
It is a day of birding and, hopefully, relaxation and recovery.
Here’s a bonus bird shot from this week that I hadn’t posted to get things started:
Duck!
A female mallard got up on the railing on one of the viewing platforms when we were at Reifel Bird Sanctuary on Saturday, and it was too close to shoot with my telephoto lens. So I took a bunch of photos of it with my iPhone. They turned out pretty good. The duck was very photogenic.
I’ll post more pics from the birding shenanigans soon™.
A drawing of a ring-necked duck
I spent way more time than I should have trying to figure out what to do with the water. A simple, flat colour? Add ripples? Make it look semi-realistic? Bright? Dark? Medium? Hot pink?
In the end, I settled for a slightly layered look using darker blues and a flat paint brush.
Photo of the day: Duck!
Specifically, a male mallard at Reifel Bird Sanctuary. More photos soon™.
Ducking out
I strolled along Sapperton Landing this afternoon and took photos of birds, boats and bodies of water, among other things. It was peaceful and relaxing.
Here are a pair of ducks on a very brightly-lit log.
